I don’t know about you, but most people I know think they are being healthy when they cook in olive oil.
They’re not.
Olive oil chemically changes when heated which makes it far less healthy than when used at room temperature.
Basically as the chemical structure changes the body finds it more difficult to break down and use as energy.
So don’t cook with it, but cover your salad and veggies with it.
My personal preference for frying is to use coconut oil or full fat butter. Proper butter comes in paper not a plastic tub. It may say something like “utterly butterly” but it isn’t actually butter so don’t be sucked in.
The benefits of coconut oil are significant.
It is not altered through heating as olive oil and hence better used as energy by the body, it also has some antiviral properties and helps to stimulate the metabolism which helps with burning body fat.
It is not particularly easy to get hold of on the supermarket shelf yet, but is easy to get hold of online.
It’s not cheap but lasts a long time and as they say you’ve got to invest in your self.
Butter is not quite as good, but again doesn’t change its structure when heated and is easily absorbed by the body for fuel.
I often cook fish in butter or sometimes just put a spoonful on my vegetables which adds a ton of taste.
Have a great weekends training and eating!
