So here is a question I had through email this week:
“Hey, I have 3 kids, a husband, a job and train everyday (sometimes twice). Have you any tips to help me fit in easy but healthy dinners etc?”
Looks like its your lucky day Claudia because Yes I have tips a plenty!
I know what its like, I run my own online nutrition business, I have my own gym, I coach at the weekends, I have a nearly two year old daughter (yes she is terrible – but kinda lovely too), my wife is pregnant with our second due in April and I train at least once a day and I am trying my best to get faster year on year, despite my advancing years (see how I didn’t say old!)
^^^^^^^^^^^
That was quite therapeutic actually.
Anyway how do you fit it all in?
I see it like this:
If your nutrition is good, you feel better, you are healthier and you have more energy. That means you are performing better at every level in your life, not just training.
So, without doubt, the busier you are the more important your nutrition is – Got it?
Each Sunday, I sit down and plan mine and my family’s food – the more you do this the easier it gets.
Last week for example, we had been to York on Saturday night which is a good 2 hour drive from me. On the way home, I drove and my wife in discussion with me wrote down our meal plan for the week.
This includes snacks and treats like going out etc.
When we got home we went shopping, got fully stocked up for the week and the rest is easy.
It means I know exactly what I am eating every day and when.
This means I give myself a far greater chance of nutritional adherence.
I was on Training Peaks the other day and it says you are at least twice as likely to achieve your aims with a plan – the same is true with nutrition.
Now, you can write that plan yourself or you can have me do it for you:
