We all have our own insecurities, some of which we will never be rid of and perhaps it’s better were not, but……….
I have noticed a real trend in the triathlon world.
That trend is the fear of stopping training and the fear of breaking your normal routine.
You may well be about to go on holiday and for some this can be a period where anxiety peaks.
The worry of not having your bike with you, how are you going to stay fit?
The worry of eating out, how will you not get fat?
The worry of coming back slower and fatter.
This fear in my opinion is born out of lack of understanding of human physiology and psychology.
No high performer can always be switched ON all the time.
If they are, they’re ON time is less effective.
Whether it be business, fitness or nutrition we all need the confidence to switch OFF.
In doing so, you will come back slower and fatter but those feelings will spur you on to greater success.
A couple of weeks in 52 is nothing as long as those other 50 are well periodised and planned.
If they are, taking a few weeks down time will leave you stronger and leaner in the long term.
But only if the rest of the year is right.
This can mean having the confidence to accept you don’t know what you’re doing.
The best way of knowing whether you do is looking at your results:
– Are you performing as well as you want?
– Are you as lean and light as you want?
If not, the chances are you either don’t know well enough what you’re doing, or you can’t action it.
The answer is to farm it out to a coach – simple as that.
That does NOT include me at the moment though because I am about to go away for 3 weeks and I won’t have time for work in that time.
You know why, so I can come back stronger, more focused and ready to help as many of you as I can.
I’ll let you know when that is – until then, be confident enough to do nothing.
