Some people seem to have endless social engagements at this time of year, I am not one.
It’s not that I don’t like Christmas, it just seems I don’t get invited to much stuff.
Perhaps its my age!
I’ve literally got one social gathering arranged pre christmas and thats not until the 19th – So, nothing much needs to change for me.
However if you are one of the popular ones who is going to be faced with temptation after temptation, this is a very dangerous time.
You see, I think Christmas itself is not the problem, its only a couple of days – its the build up.
If you get excited and go too hard now you could find yourself easily the wrong side of half a stone in January.
What to do?
– Drive to social events you are not that bothered about.
If you’ve got to go but you know its not going to be that good, driving will save you a whole host of calories by removing the alcohol. The drink may make it more bearable but think big picture
– Fast
If you are going out big and you know you will be consuming a lot, try consuming very little on the day leading up to it.
– Walk more
I am not a fan of trying to train yourself out of a bad diet as you will just add fatigue. However more steps will burn energy without adding too much fatigue.
– Order off the menu
People often think this isn’t an option but if you want something healthier just ask for it. Maybe an extra chicken breast or some more veg. I am not a liar but sometimes a little white lie can help here, something like:
“I have been advised to avoid too much …………….. for health reasons, so please can I have ……………….instead.
They won’t say no.
It is only a little lie and if necessary blame me – I won’t mind.
That will make the world of difference and may make that half a stone closer to 2 pounds which is worth the extra fun.
