As I become more experienced in life I seem to be noticing more of a theme.
Some people moan a lot about why things aren’t working for them.
Some people don’t, they see a problem and they just go about fixing it.
That sounds very simple doesn’t it?
Like all you have to do is make a decision to change and then you will get what you want.
Those who achieve their goals also seem to have a few other characteristics:
Patience:
This is maybe the most important, they know it won’t happen straight away.
Persistence:
They know that it will be hard but the longer they can put up with it being hard, the better the results.
Realistic expectations:
Understanding you are not an olympic athlete or an adonis like genetic freak is critical. I’ll wager if your reading this then you are neither – otherwise why would you have signed up?
So, we all know that these are some key personality traits but then that is reading this now in the cold light of day.
What about when things aren’t going your way – when you feel like giving up?
Well thats when you need someone to talk sense into you
I need this frequently – not so much about training/nutrition anymore but when other things don’t go perfectly in my life.
You see sometimes my own expectations are too high.
So what can you do to help?
Well you can try and be patient.
You can try to keep going.
You can try and be realistic.
The issue for a lot of triathletes is that they try and do it all on their own.
Even if they are a member of a club, or have training partners, they spend most of their time training alone.
They also spend most of their time having conversations in their own head, about why things aren’t going as well as they could be.
This is particularly true of nutrition.
We’re very good at convincing ourselves we didn’t eat that badly last week:
“So why did I not lose weight?”
Somehow we’ve managed to trick ourselves.
Thats why I set up The Total Triathlete.
