Why you stopped losing fat

Unknown-2This is a very common scenario.

You start training and your diet gets better and guess what?

Yes you lose some fat and start to feel good about yourself.

For me I remember this clearly, even though it was 20 years ago.

My aim at the time, as daft as it sounds, wass to feel comfortable wearing lycra.  Feel as though all the bumps were in the right place not the wrong!

Lycra was nowhere near as acceptable then, as it is now, especially for a man.

That last bit of fat wouldn’t go though, why?

Well firstly the psychological:

I think a lot of us just stop slightly short of reaching our goal.  Probably because we are actually starting to feel quite good about ourselves and actually, perhaps we are content enough to not keep trying.

Then the physiological:

Our bodies are very adaptive, they have to be to survive.

When we up our training, initially it is hard and then you get fitter.  If you kept doing what you did at the beginning then your fitness will NOT improve notably.

The same is true of diet.

When we reduce energy intake we initially lose weight but then our bodies get used to that intake and start to slow things down a bit.

Essentially the body is worried that if we continue to lose weight at that rate we will die.

You will have heard the term “starvation mode” and thats basically what this means.

So to continue progress you have to make changes – not necessarily massive ones but nonetheless some changes.

This is why I love the phrase:

“If you do what you’ve always done, you will get what you’ve always got”

Obvious but amazing how many of us actually don’t realise this.

As you and your body develop and weight loss and fitness gains become harder, you need to become more intelligent in how you eat and train.

It can’t simply be about eating less and training more.

Otherwise eventually you would be eating nothing and training 24 hours a day.

So what should you do?

Get help, thats what.

From someone who knows what to do and how to help you.

From someone who has been there and has helped hundreds of people.
