Levels of leanness are a bit like fitness, both are a matter of perspective.
What might be good for you may be not so good for The Browniees.
The problem with competitive people is that they tend to compare themselves to the best around them, or the best who they think have an achievable target.
For example, it is rare to finish a race and feel completely satisfied – I am terrible for this!
If only I was 3 minutes quicker!
The same applies to body fat levels.
As somebody who has been fat, lean and in the middle, I can tell you that I’ve never been happy.
Essentially it is because I always strive for more in everything that I do.
I sometimes wish I wasn’t like that, maybe I would be happier.
But……
I am and I sort of like it.
As an athlete you will be the same.
Its why having benchmarks for performance is a good motivator.
Running 5k, taking the time and trying to beat it in 6 weeks having followed a structured period of training.
The same applies to diet and body composition.
Ideally you would have an accurate body fat measurement but that is very hard and expensive to get.
What I recommend is taking two simple measurements.
One is weight.
The other is a measurement around the navel.
Both are easy to do.
Do them both, only once a week, I like a Friday.
Then follow a period of well thought out nutrition and do it agin in a week and so on.
Over the course of a month you will lose body fat and as a result you are likely to run, bike and swim faster without any extra training.
Without any missed family time and the hassle that can bring from your better half.
“Sorry I’ve got to go training”
“What again!”
Sound familiar?
Whilst good training is needed, getting your diet right is like a shortcut.
You can go faster without getting fitter.
It’s why I wrote my E book – The Triathlete Nutrition Code:
It teaches you how to setup your nutrition properly.
That is properly for you, for your body type.
It teaches you about what nutrients you need to eat and more importantly when to eat them.
And of course it is full of tasty recipes for the whole family.
Not bland, rabbit food.
No, tasty, wholesome, healthy food – YES it does exist.
It’s only £9.99/14 USD ish.
