There are different ways to get faster at triathlon.
You can get up before work every week and go for a run and then train at lunchtime and then again after work.
In the short term you would probably be faster but how long could you keep that up.
Not just physically, but mentally.
How long would it be before you started resenting the sport and its demands?
How long would it be before your other half got fed up – they actually want to spend time with you.
And that means quality time – NOT just time with you vegging out at home because your so tired.
Sure, volume of training is important but so to is quality and often less volume can yield better results as long as it is managed well.
That means, well planned sessions.
It means active and total recovery.
It means optimal nutrition for you.
It means adding good quality, functional strength training to your programme.
All of this will make you faster and leaner, like Matt:
“All going well at the moment. I am the lightest and leanest I have ever been. Yesterday I won my age category (50 – 54) and placed 6th overall.
I find I’m thinking about food more often than previously (good thing or bad, I don’t know) but am probably getting more enjoyment from the food I eat now than I used to.
I got a six pack for the first time, aged 50.
Happy days.”
