As a triathlete, we all make sacrifices – manly our time.
We give it away to our training in the quest to get better.
That level of sacrifice makes us feel like we deserve something good.
If you have ever had a job you really worked hard in, it is the same feeling – you work hard, you earn money and hence you feel the need to spend, maybe on stuff you don’t need but just want.
On the contrary, you don’t work hard and you don’t feel the need to reward yourself in the same way.
I’ve experienced both.
In training the reward is food and maybe alcohol but as always there are better choices.
Better ways to cheat.
Foods that give you the fix without the consequences.
My favourite weekend cheat is:
Saturday nights (I have Sundays off training)
Fillet Steak with a Jacket potato and butter, corn and another veg
1-2 beers
Up to half a bottle of red wine
Half a bar of 80% dark chocolate.
In total this is approximately 1500 calories – quite a lot.
But there is still lots of nutrient density,
A good hit of protein – good fats (even in the chocolate) – micronutrients in the veg.
Then there is the booze which has NO nutritional benefit whatsoever but its just nice.
If you compare this to a takeaway or pizza, my cheat will win every time and its cheaper.
In fact there are loads of good meals you can cheat with, which are reasonably healthy but leave you feeling like you’ve had a treat.
I post such meals in the my private coaching group – The Total Triathlete.
Not just that but on sign up you also get a FREE copy go my E-book which is full of good recipes.
You can also ask me anything one to one in the private Facebook group.
When you should eat what?
How much?
What to eat on different training days etc etc.
For £10 (roughly $13) a month that is a steal.
