I read a book recently about a British Special Forces (SAS) mission to the gulf in the 1990’s.
It was an incredible read and shows just how hard these guys were.
As Triathlete’s we can sometimes think we have it hard but when you get dropped off in the desert for a week with only what you can carry and are constantly at risk of being shot, well……….
That’s a different level!
The SAS have a saying:
“Proper, Prior, Planning Prevents Piss Poor Performance”
When your life is on the line this is a saying to be taken seriously.
To be fair the stakes are far higher than just not doing as well as you would like at your A race.
Having said that…….
If you have ever really suffered in training or racing, you will know that it can feel like your world is coming to an end – in fact, that can sometimes seem the better option!
It’s why good planning is important in any sport.
But probably more in endurance sport because the stakes are higher.
If you get your pace wrong, you can suffer immeasurably.
If you get your nutrition wrong, your race can be over.
Some of you will have learned the hard way – I did and I wouldn’t recommend it.
This is why I set up The Total Triathlete:
