I was listening to a podcast the other day.
One of the guys who is a coach for team GB’s Elite Triathletes was saying how most endurance athletes are a little bit OCD.
The context of the conversation related to how most of these OCD people are more inclined to do too much training rather than not enough.
And, doing too much can actually be worse than doing too little.
Can I relate to that?
For sure.
I have overtrained in the past or under-recovered as some people put it.
It’s not nice because the only way out is to do the complete opposite of what feels natural.
Instead of doing more, you’ve got to do less – like way less.
And that less will make you faster as you get back on top of things.
What then are the key components which lead to over training?
– Too much training, obviously
– Too few calories
– Too few nutrients
– Too little sleep
– And…….
My favourite:
– Life stressors
WTF does that even mean?
Sadly it means different things to different people but I know from first-hand experience that this is what has tipped me over the edge in the past – In my case, we moved house and I was in the middle of a block of hard training…..
Things went wrong!
Anyway, to manage your OCD – ness, it is important to have everything dialed in.
Specifically your nutrition and sleep.
And Yes, each impact one another.
