One of the great things about Triathlon as a sport is that it has a relatively low barrier to entry – apart from the cost of Ironman events……….
Nearly everyone has at some time run.
Nearly everyone will have learned to ride a bike when they were a kid.
Most people will have learned to stay afloat in a swimming pool.
The run and bike then are not a big issue for most people.
The swim though……
Well staying afloat isn’t enough and breaststroke – NO!
But is focussing so much time and effort on swimming better, worth it?
Let’s face it, out of the three disciplines it is the one which you will spend the least amount of time doing come race day.
By that logic, you would be far better focussing on getting better at the run and bike.
That said, you obviously have to have some confidence in the water – PANIC, anyone??
But how much do you focus on your nutrition?
How many hours per week?
Sure you eat but how much of the week do you consciously focus on improving your nutrition so that it benefits your performance?
I’d wager less than you do on learning to swim or surfing the web for a cheap bike!
But good nutrition will not only improve your times – far more than a half decent swim or new bike will, but……
It will also improve your health.
Think about that!
An exceptionally healthy, well functioning body will serve you well for life.
It is far less likely to let you down.
Plus it will look a lot better.
