I remember back in the day when I went to see a dietician as a fat kid.
Sadly, this woman was next to useless.
I was only 10 and wanted to learn how to eat better because I was overweight and I didn’t like it.
Her advice was that I needn’t worry and I would probably grow out of it.
Probably……..
Well, I didn’t!
Anyway, I remember sitting down with my Mum and drawing up a meal plan which with hindsight had many flaws – it was the 80’s and low fat was king.
My Mum thought it was a good idea to weigh food – so we did and it helped.
It taught me how much 50g of rice looked like.
It was surprisingly small!
Now, I rarely weigh food because I know what certain amounts look like but if I hadst have gone through that journey I probably wouldn’t have.
So, Yes.
Weighing food can be really useful and stop us overeating.
In the long term though it is not the answer.
It’s just too much of a chore.
What is the answer?
Learning about nutrition and more importantly what works for you.
Because we are all so different.
